  1. 1

Check the day — closed on Tuesdays

Open 10:00–18:00 (last entry 17:00), Wednesday to Monday. Closed on Tuesdays except national holidays.

  2. 2

Go to 1952 Century Avenue, Pudong

Take Metro Line 2 to Shanghai Science & Technology Museum, Exit 8. Don't go to People's Square: that branch has only one special exhibition until November 2027.

  3. 3

Enter through the B1 East Gate with your passport

The museum's words: “individual visitors can enter the Museum with a valid ID through the B1 East Gate after security check. Reservation is not required.” Bring your original passport.

  4. 4

Optional: book The Curio-City or the Digital Gallery

These two still need a reservation. On the museum site, “Reservation” → “Book a Visit” leads to a Visitor Guidelines page with two QR codes: the WeChat mini-program and Trip.com. There's no web form.

    Ticketed special exhibitions

When a special exhibition is ticketed, buy online or on site, as posted on the museum's site.

Key pitfalls

  • Closed on Tuesdays (except national holidays).
  • Individual visitors enter through the B1 East Gate. The North Gate is for groups, visitors aged 65+ and visitors with disabilities.
  • There's no online booking form: the official “Book a Visit” page only shows WeChat and Trip.com QR codes. You only need them for The Curio-City, the Digital Gallery or ticketed exhibitions.
  • The People's Square branch is showing only one special exhibition (9 July 2026–14 November 2027). For the permanent galleries, come to the East museum in Pudong.
  • Groups of 20 or more must phone-book 7 days ahead (021-60226699).
