Shanghai Pudong & Hongqiao airport to the city

Most long-haul flights use Pudong (PVG); many domestic and some international flights use Hongqiao (SHA), next to the high-speed rail station. Here is the simple foreigner path into people’s Square, the Bund or your hotel.

Pudong (PVG)

Hongqiao (SHA)

Connected to Hongqiao Railway Station. Metro Lines 2 and 10 serve the complex. If you arrive by high-speed train and fly out of PVG the same day, leave a wide berth for the cross-city transfer.

Tickets to book soon after landing

Shanghai Disneyland (dated tickets), Shanghai Museum, and any day trips. Set up data before you leave the airport Wi-Fi.

Pitfalls: Mixing up PVG and SHA on your hotel pickup. Boarding Maglev without a plan for the Longyang Road transfer late at night.

Outline from published PVG Maglev / metro Line 2 patterns as of 2026. Re-check last-train times on the day. Reviewed 9 Oct 2026.

FAQ

Maglev or metro from PVG?

Maglev is faster to Longyang Road, then metro onward. Metro Line 2 is cheaper and goes further west without a transfer — better with big luggage if you do not mind ~60–90 minutes.

Can I use Alipay for metro?

Yes once tourist Alipay works — or buy a single-journey ticket with cash/card at machines. See our Alipay guide.
